Data Warehouse Installation

The data warehouse requires the use of Hummingbird's BI/Query software and Oracle's SQL*Net.

Important Install Notes

All Users:
If you are running an Operating System which manages local accounts (i.e., XP, NT, Win 2000, etc.):
Your user account must have the appropriate privileges in order to update the registry and system directories. Generally, the best results are achieved when the user account which accesses the DWHS is given administrative rights before running the DWHS Installation program. Administrative rights can be revoked after the installation has successfully completed. Talk with your Computer Support Specialist regarding this before attempting installation.

BiQuery 9 Setup Instructions
To make sure that no one loses their custom queries and reports, the
data models are still being stored in the older C:\GQL directory structure.
Because of this, you will have to tell the new BiQuery 9 version where to find your
DWHS.CON connection file, and the data models themselves.  Here is how:

  1. After starting BiQuery 9 chose Local Data Model.

  2. Browse to your Data Model which will be in one of the following locations:

    C:\GQL\FINAID\USER
    C:\GQL\FIS\USER
    C:\GQL\HRIS\USER
    C:\GQL\STUDENT\USER

  3. You will probably receive the following error message - Click OK:

  4. From the Host menu chose Connections…

The following dialog will come up:

  5. In the bottom of the dialog box chose the biq.ini radio button, and then using the […] button to its right, browse to your DWHS.CON directory:
    • If you only have one data model installed, then browse to its directory, which will be one of the following:
      C:\GQL\FINAID
      C:\GQL\FIS
      C:\GQL\HRIS
      C:\GQL\STUDENT
    • If you have more than one model installed then browse to C:\GQL
    • Click OK
  6. After you have located and selected the DWHS.CON directory, but before leaving the Connections dialog, press the Edit button which will bring up the following dialog:

  7. Type in your User Name in the User name field and then press Save.

This should complete your connection setup.  You should now be able to connect to the database using the Data Model of your choice.
